these ethiopian coffees from osito are literally something else. they are both from mensur aba hika, who is part of the tokuma group that run out of the jimma zone of ethiopia. we love the washed-natural duos and here is a pair that really is exemplar of ethiopian coffee and are super representative of the flavours expected from many washed and natural processed coffees.
the washed-processed coffee is so drinkable. it’s sweet, caramel vibes that really remind me of dates, with a lovely floral finish that is so fig-like. honestly, this coffee is super nostalgic for me, it reminds me of my childhood, drinking arabic chai, eating fresh figs from my dad’s tree and medjool dates.
the natural-processed coffee is exactly what you imagine when someone tells you natural-processed coffee from ethiopia. it’s ripe blueberries, with a nice acidity that makes it juicy and fruity. once you finish the first few sips, there’s floral jasmine notes that linger. the flavours are honestly sensational.

Mensur Aba Hika was the first single producer from whom Osito purchased coffee in Ethiopia, five harvests ago. He plays a key role in the Tokuma Farmer Group, a collective of farmers in Western Ethiopia working together to market their coffees and share knowledge to improve quality. Over the past five years, we’ve seen notable improvements in quality, consistency, and the timely delivery of coffees to port. Mensur’s contribution has been essential to both the success of the Tokuma group and Osito’s work with single producers in the region.
Historically, Jimma was known for low-quality naturally processed coffees. In 2009, Technoserve, an international nonprofit, began helping farmers in the area learn how to wash and produce specialty coffee. Since then, Jimma has become one of Ethiopia’s top-quality producing regions. Recently, with fewer restrictions on marketing and exporting, small and medium producers have been able to market their coffees directly, and Osito has proudly supported these producers over the past five years.
